Eligible entry points for Armenia with an e-Visa

Armenia, a country of history and culture located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, is a popular destination for many travellers. To make it easier for tourists to access this rich and diverse territory, the Armenian authorities have introduced an electronic visa or e-visa system.

This document allows foreigners to stay in the country for a variety of reasons, includingtourism, business or study. In this article, we present you with the main information concerning the entry points eligible with an e-visa in Armenia.

Eligible airports Enter Armenia by air

The most popular and practical way to discover Armenia is undoubtedly by plane. Several airlines regularly serve the country's two main international airports:

  1. Zvartnots International Airport (EVN): located near the capital Yerevan, this is the main entry point for travellers to Armenia with an e-visa. This modern, well-equipped airport offers numerous connections with several cities in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

In all cases, you should check with your airline whether it serves one of these two eligible entry points into Armenia with an e-visa.

Procedure at the airport

To enter Armenia via one of these two international airports, you will need to present the following documents to the relevant authorities:

  • Your passport Valid for at least 3 months after the date of return;
  • A printed copy of your e-visa, showing your personal details and the start and expiry dates of the visa;
  • Proof of sufficient financial means to cover the costs associated with your stay in Armenia, such as a recent bank statement.

Land borders: take the Armenian route

In addition to airports, there are several land crossings where you can enter Armenia with an e-visa. They link the country to its neighbours, such as Georgia and Iran. Here are the main eligible border crossings:

  1. Bagratashen-Sadakhlo border crossing: located in the north of Armenia, it links the country to Georgia via the M1 road. This crossing point is very busy and permanently open to e-visa holders.
  2. Bavra-Ninotsminda border crossing: also accessible from Georgia, this border crossing is further east of the previous one, near the H31 road. Less busy, it is more suitable for travellers wishing to avoid long waiting times.
  3. Gogavan-Akhalkalaki border crossing: this is another crossing point between Armenia and Georgia, located near the small Armenian town of Gogavan. However, this border crossing is not always open 24 hours a day and may not accept certain types of vehicle.
  4. Agarak-Nordooz border crossing: this crossing point in southern Armenia provides access to Iran via the M2 road. Open around the clock, it is the only land border crossing between these two countries that accepts e-visas.
  5. Ayrum railway station : only authorised station

It is advisable to check opening times and conditions with the Armenian authorities or embassies before you leave.

Documents to be presented at land border crossings

As with entry by air, you will need to present a number of documents to border control officials:

  • Your valid passport, valid for at least 3 months after leaving Armenia;
  • A printed copy of your e-visa;
  • Proof of sufficient financial resources.

Please also note that some travellers may be subject to stricter checks on their vehicles or luggage.

Entry points not eligible for an e-visa in Armenia

It is essential to emphasise that several entry points are not eligible for the use of an e-visa in Armenia. These include

  • The borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan: closed for several decades due to political tensions and conflicts, they do not allow access to Armenian territory.
  • Some small provincial airports: they do not handle international flights and are therefore not authorised to process electronic visas.
