When you plan to visit Armenia as part of an international trip, the question of obtaining a visa often arises. This can be the case even if you're just passing through Armenia. Let's take a look at the specific features of the Armenian e-Visa and see whether it is suitable for transit travellers.

What is the Armenian e-Visa?

The Armenian e-Visa is an electronic document that allows its holder to enter Armenia for a specific period of time. It was introduced by the government of the Republic of Armenia to make it easier for foreigners wishing to visit the country.

Features of e-Visa

The Armenian e-Visa has several important features:

  • It is valid for short stays (up to 120 days).
  • It can be used for tourist, business or family trips.
  • It is available to nationals of many countries around the world. You can check whether you are eligible on the official Armenian government website.
  • The e-Visa application is entirely paperless and is made online. There is no need to go to an embassy or consulate to obtain it.
  • The processing time for an e-Visa application is generally fairly short, at least 3 days with our services.

Conditions for obtaining an e-Visa

To be eligible for an Armenian e-Visa, certain conditions must be met:

  • Be an eligible national.
  • A passport valid for the duration of the planned stay in Armenia.
  • Proof of accommodation for the duration of the stay (hotel reservation, accommodation with friends or family, etc.).
  • Pay the application fee associated with the e-Visa application.

Is the Armenian e-Visa suitable for transit travellers?

Now that we have seen what the Armenian e-Visa is and what its main features are, let's look at whether it is suited to the needs of people in transit in Armenia.

Definition of transit

Transit is the passage from one member state of an international organisation to another via the territory of a third country in order to make a journey. In our case, this means passing through Armenia on the way to another country without necessarily visiting Armenia.

Conditions for using the e-Visa for transit purposes

In certain situations, it is possible to use the Armenian e-Visa for transit:

  • If you land at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport and need to collect your luggage before checking in for your next flight, you will need an e-Visa to cross the border zone.
  • If you need to leave the international zone of the airport to take a land connection (bus, train) to another country, you will also need to obtain an e-Visa.

However, if you don't leave the international zone of the airport when you transit Armenia, you don't need to have an e-Visa, as you won't go through Armenian customs.
